paluma ~ wet tropics world heritage area
paluma is a halfway between townsville and ingham turn inland off the bruce highway. it is approximately 60 kilometres north of townsville (40km south of ingham). a 20 kilometre drive up a steep winding road to the township at the top of the range and we can see the scenic road which was built mostly by hand during the 1930s great depression and it was an enduring monument to human achievement.
there are some nice sites to visit such as paluma H track which is one of a variety of short walks. a short 2 kilometre loop walk through the montane rainforest, it was ideal sites to see the variety of rainforest trees and hearing the many bird species which frequent the forest. furthermore, crsytal creek, it has icy cold crystal clear water rushes down the gorge beneath the arch. the deep pools, huge granite boulders and lush rainforest vegetation make it the best swimming hole in townsville-thuringowa and a popular stopover on the drive up to the village of paluma.
